O’Shaughnessy Scholarship​

Minnesota K-12 Reading Teacher Endorsement​

Due to a generous grant from the O’Shaughnessy Foundation, the University of St. Thomas School ofEducation can offer 10 teachers the opportunity to expand their literacy skills with a $10,000 scholarship to apply toward the MN K-12 Reading Teacher Endorsement tuition. The university has chosen to offer this exciting opportunity to Tier 3 and/or Tier 4 teachers currently teaching in a charter, public or private school serving diverse and underrepresented students, determined by evaluating the following metrics:

  • Percent of under-represented students in the district/school
  • Percent of English language learners
  • Percent of free and reduced lunch
  • Title I designation

    Candidates for this program have:

    • A Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited institution
    • A cumulative minimum undergraduate G.P.A. of 3.0 (4.0 scale). If below 3.0, please reference our provisional admissions policy.

    Application Materials​

    Submit the following application materials:

    • Application form (See K-12 Reading Endorsement under Licenses on the application.)
    • Two positive letters of reference from non-related individuals
    • Official transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate work (unless that work was completed at the University of St. Thomas) submitted from the educational institution
    • Submit transcripts to: Graduate Admissions, University of St. Thomas, Box 5, 1000 LaSalle Ave., Minneapolis, MN 55403
    • Personal statement.

    • Information regarding your current educational license

    Funding Requirements

    The scholarship will be applied to tuition in the amounts listed here, and may not be combined with other discounts you may be eligible for. Any remaining fees, books, and supplies will be the responsibility of the student. You must remain enrolled in all classes and terms as defined above. If you withdraw from classes or take a leave from the program, the scholarship may not be available upon re-enrollment.

    Supplementary Materials​

    Submit the supplementary materials:

    • This is an additional license program requiring a Tier 3 or Tier 4 license. Have your license number on hand when filling out the application.

    International Applicants:

    • Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required for any candidate whose primary language is not English.
    • Transcript Evaluation: All international transcripts must be reviewed by an accredited evaluation service to determine U.S. equivalency of the degree awarded and the institution awarding the degree. Applications will not be reviewed for admissions until the official review is submitted.
