Equity, Race and Education

Dean’s Forum

Candid Conversations

The School of Education launched the monthly Dean's Forums to provide a place for candid conversations on race, equity, inclusion, and education, modeling it after Columbia University Teachers College's Racial Literacy Lecture Series. Featured speakers have included School of Education faculty and students as well as well-known authors and speakers, including:

Topics have ranged from "The Need for Racial Literacy in the Digital Age" and "Why Not Black Males?" to "A Need for Black Historical Consciousness." Forum attendees are reminded during these candid conversations of the 4 agreements of courageous conversations: Stage Engaged, Experience Discomfort, Speak Your Truth and Expect and Accept Non-closure.

"We’re here to have a challenging conversation that is open and honest. We’re discussing issues that many of us have been taught we shouldn’t talk about."

Dr. Kathlene H. Campbell, Board of Trustees Member
